4 Ways to Style Sofa Throws to Add Color and Texture to Your Home

On a cold autumn or winter night, there’s nothing better than cuddling up with a good book under a blanket. And sofa throws can serve as the perfect versatile pieces to add color, texture, and warmth to your home. Here are some tips on how to use these blankets in your living room and beyond.

1. Over the Back of a Couch

A colorful throw looks great when it’s just thrown across the back of a couch. If you prefer a more neat and tidy style, you might like to meticulously fold your blanket or neatly drape it over the arm of your sofa. However, throws work just as well when they’re tossed over the back corner of a sofa, with a little bit of the fabric pooled over onto the seat. If you go for this look, you might want to prop a few small pillows on top to keep the throw in place. Both options convey a look of warmth and add a layer of texture to your home. Choose a brightly colored throw to add a little pop of color to your decor, or stick with a neutral color in a bold texture for more depth and interest.

2. Brightening Up an Armchair

A textured throw also looks amazing when draped over the side of an armchair. You can position the throw ultra precisely, resembling a waiter holding a napkin across his arm. Or you can create a more easygoing, inviting style by laying out the throw in a diagonal position, draped onto the seat. You can also place a throw across the back of an armchair, with the end of the blanket acting as a protective barrier to the seat cushions, a great option for anyone with pets. Some stylish homes even feature a neatly folded throw over the back of an armchair, secured underneath the seat cushion so that it stays in place.

3. Sprucing Up Your Bedroom

Think throw blankets are just for the living room? Not a chance! When it comes to your bedroom decor, you can add color to a neutral headboard by draping a throw down the middle. Or you can spruce up your comforter by adding a blanket at the end of the bed. To add some interest, you may want to look for a contrasting color or texture for your bedroom. A faux fur throw, for example, looks amazing when combined with a smooth-textured comforter.

4. Tossing It in a Basket

If your home is more minimalist and the thought of an extra piece to style and worry about each day isn’t your thing, you might want to store your throws in a stylish basket that you can easily take out when needed. This season, slouchy baskets are all the rage, and they’re perfect for housing your favorite blankets. You could also store your extra throws in a trendy wire basket.

When it comes to cozy, decorative blankets, there’s really no “right” or “wrong” way to store them. No matter how you display them, sofa throws add a level comfort and coziness to your home in a way that nothing else really can.
